If you are dipping your toes into the wine world or have been in it for years, it is still important to take care of your wine cooler. These are some simple tips and tricks that we have prepared on how to make sure your wine cooler runs smoothly and keeps your wine collection in its best condition for the long run.
1. Location and positioning
The positioning and location of your wine cooler are important. If you have a unit that has front ventilation, it can go pretty much anywhere. You can also fit them so that they are flush with the cabinetry. However, if it does not have front ventilation, you’ll want to refrain from placing it in any sort of confined space. Do remember that if you do place it in a tight space, it is strongly recommended that you leave 2 to 4 inches on each side to allow proper ventilation.
A tip: No matter what type of wine cooler you have, the cooler should not be placed in a place that gets lots of direct sunlight, especially if they have a glass door.
2. Installation
Next, if your wine cooler is new and you’ve unpacked the unit, let it stand upright for at least 24 hours. This would allow all the inner components that may have been rattled or moved to settle back in place themselves. Installing a wine cooler is easy, it’s mostly a case of having a clear route to a power supply and being able to open the doors fully.
3. Clean regularly
You don’t have to worry about cleaning your wine cooler so often, you just have to do it every 6 months and you’re good to go. Wine coolers are really low maintenance, but you should still take some steps to keep them clean and functional. This is how you do it:
Unplug the wine cooler and remove everything inside including the shelves.
Put your wine collection in a dark, cold part of your home while you do the cleaning.
Use a clean cloth and wipe down the interior.
Let your wine cooler cool down again before putting everything inside again.
If your wine cooler has a carbon filter, you must also check if they have become clogged or not. Make sure to change it out.
4. Some wine hacks that may be useful...
As a bonus, here are some hacks you can try for your wine collection:
If you need to chill a bottle quickly, try wrapping a wet paper towel around it or linen cloth and put it in your freezer for 20 minutes.
Keep your wine cool by using frozen fruit like grapes or wine cubes. Pour wine into an ice tray and let it freeze for 48 hours. Say goodbye to watered-down wine.
Got wine stains you can’t get rid of? Try using salt and baking soda.
